Pennsylvania has 501 school districts, each served by one of 29 intermediate units that provide a wide range of services to students and schools. Intermediate units are comprised of several adjacent individual school districts. Each school district is governed by an elected board of directors and managed by a superintendent.

New Jersey

New Jersey has 2,422 schools operating out of 615 school districts. These public schools serve approximately 1.4 million students each year and 85 percent of graduating seniors continue their education after high school. The state of Delaware has 16 regular school districts, three vocational districts and 16 charter schools, with two more scheduled to open for the next school year.
